No single process is more important when you invest in a beautiful custom wood exterior door then the quality of the finish. That’s why we offer our own custom finishing, using the finest industrial finishing process available,

to protect your investment.

After each exterior door component has been artisan crafted and all hardware machining has been completed your door is finely hand sanded, paying special attention to wood end grains to ensure uniformity in stain absorption and overall finish quality.

A base coat stain, custom color formulated in our plant, containing iron oxide (that absorbs U.V. radiation) and a fungi inhibitor is applied to all bare wood.

Two key Steps to note in this process:

(1.) Areas that will eventually be covered by lock sets and hinges are given special attention, assuring they are entirely coated, sealed and finished.

(2.) Panels are also coated, sealed and finished on all six sides prior to final installation into the door. Two steps most companies skip: leaving areas on their doors unprotected, unfinished and susceptible to moisture damage.

End grains and key areas susceptible to moisture or wicking are then coated with a special water resin sealer with elastic properties to close all open channels in the woods fiber. Other companies and field finishers do not provide this extra protection.

Envision Doors utilizes a hydroplus waterborne ECO friendly coating formulated to maintain a high elasticity rate, it is carefully hand sprayed to the recommended thickness, and the end result is a lustrous durable long lasting top finish that achieves sufficient outdoor resistance. Some companies use an environmentally unfriendly solvent-based process for their door finishing, U.V. rays radically react within the finish film on these products, and overtime they become brittle and crack.
